restaurant guide
The UK restaurant scene revolves quicker than the conveyer belts of a sushi chain.
Just when we were polishing up our silver for the anticipated comeback of eating in, we're suddenly unable to book our favourite table less than three weeks in advance. Last year's must-be-seens are this year's empty tables and the surprises just keep on coming.
We've been working over time this year to bring you 350 reviews including 125 new restaurants up and down the country. Highlights include Maze, Gordon Ramsay's amazing new venture, and the opening of the Ledbury which we hope will kick-start the long-awaited foodie revolution in the previously gastronomically parched Notting Hill. There have been disappointments with staff who don't speak enough English to take your order, inept (and sometimes downright rude) service and joints that insist on putting style over sustenance.
Predictions for the year ahead? An invasion of South American fare - Argentinian steak, Brazilian rodizios, as much ceviche as you can shake a lemon at, the return of dinner entertainment, Art Deco glamour and anything with lily root.
